Privacy Policy

Aphanite (operated by Aphanite Labs) is built so that we hold as little of your data as possible. Message contents are encrypted on your device before they are sent, and our relay only ever moves sealed envelopes it cannot read. This policy explains what we do and do not collect.

Message contents. Every message is end-to-end encrypted using keys that never leave your devices. We cannot read your messages, and we cannot produce their contents in response to any request.

Your private keys. Signing and encryption keys are generated and stored on your device. We never receive them.

Wallet address. Your public wallet address is your identity on Aphanite. When you sign in, we verify a signature to confirm you control that address.

Handle directory. If you claim a handle (for example @alice), we store the mapping from that handle to your public address and device key, and record it in a public, tamper-evident transparency log.

Routing metadata. To deliver messages, our relay temporarily processes which address a sealed envelope is addressed to and when. We minimize retention of this metadata and are working to reduce it further.

Contact messages. If you use the website contact form, the message you submit and any email you provide are delivered to our team so we can respond.

We never sell your personal information. We do not run advertising against your messages, and we do not monetize the contents of your communications. Our revenue comes from optional paid features such as handles, backup, and business tooling.

We use a session cookie to keep you signed in after you authenticate with your wallet. Your preferences, drafts, verified contacts, and message history are stored locally in your browser and are not transmitted to us.

Undelivered envelopes are removed once delivered. Handle-to-key records remain in the transparency log by design, so that name-to-key bindings stay auditable. You can stop using the service at any time; message history stored on your device is under your control.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because we intentionally hold very little, most of your data lives on your own devices. To make a request, contact us using the form on our homepage.

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date. Continued use of Aphanite after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
